Project Description
On the coffee cultivation side, local landowners have expressed willingness to lease land for the project. The area under consideration is between 5 to 7 hectares, and an MOU is being prepared to formalize the lease arrangement between RCHG, the landowners, and the local government body. The lease will run for a period to be mutually agreed upon, with the rate to be determined as per prevailing Nepal Government guidelines. The club also facilitated a site visit by a coffee cultivation expert, whose assessment will help guide the planning and implementation of the cultivation program. Getting landowner buy-in and expert input early means the project has a solid foundation to build on.
Supporting the cultivation effort, a deep boring irrigation project has been approved by the Provincial Government of Gandaki Province, with an estimated cost of NPR 15,00,000 fully funded by the government. The technical specifications are already in place: 300-metre depth, 6-inch iron pipe, with the pipes already delivered to site. The drilling machine is expected to be mobilized soon, and a site survey to finalize the exact drilling location will be conducted before work begins.
On the homestay renovation front, things are already moving on the ground. Local stakeholders estimated the total construction cost for toilet construction to be at NPR 5,00,000 and have taken the lead in funding and driving the construction themselves. Materials have arrived and work is currently underway. RCHG's contribution for partition for additional room, for which the club has committed NPR 2,00,000, with NPR 1,00,000 already released as advance. The remaining NPR 1,00,000 will be disbursed upon progress verification. The club's role here is that of a coordinator and facilitator, bringing resources and support to a community that is already showing strong ownership and initiative.
The bee farming component continues to thrive. The initiative has gained real traction within the community, with people coming from surrounding areas specifically to purchase bees, and the honey production for this season has already sold out entirely. It is a clear sign that this component has moved well beyond the project stage and into something the community can genuinely call its own.
All four components together, coffee as a livelihood crop, reliable irrigation, upgraded homestay facilities, and a thriving bee farming enterprise, reflect the integrated vision of the Model Village Initiative: sustainable income, better infrastructure, and a community ready to welcome visitors.
